“There are a lot of painters out there but only a tiny percent of those that I would call a true artist. Jan Martin McGuire is one of the few… Jan’s work comes from her heart. A big piece of her heart belongs in Africa. I could say this about myself, having been there over a dozen times. But Jan’s work leaves me in awe. Many of her African paintings are truly stunning in their drama.”

“Jan has
created a most impressive artistic body of work – artistically and expertly representing a broad cross-section of the wildlife wonders of the continent. Based on field experiences, tens of thousands of reference photos, field sketches, and ‘bio-facts’ she’s collected along the way, Jan has created art that is an homage to the Africa she loves.”

Why I Paint

Of all the creatures (each and every one of them I love), arguably the elephant stands out as being probably the most exciting. Every child, I think, is intrigued by the great gray beasts, so alien and foreign – yet so familiar.

Their love of family, the emotions they exhibit, all these things you read about and see on TV and movies. But having one standing beside your safari vehicle in the depths of the savannah, in the wild, in THEIR world is hard to describe.

Which is why I paint.  It is my way to share these wonderful animals with others.
